CHICAGOLAND FAIR
Souvenir Edition - "CHICAGO LAND OF OPPORTUNITY".
Here's a wonderful large-format historical magazine/brochure documenting Chicago, Illinois, in 1957. Specifically, it was produced to highlight the "Chicagoland Fair", which was about to take place from June 28 to July 14, 1957, on Navy Pier and at other sites in the city.
The fair was intended to showcase Chicago's growth as a dynamic place to visit, live, work, and do business, much like a World's Fair would, but on a smaller scale.
Please see a sampling of the pages, below, to get a sense of the scope of this guide to Chicago and the fair. There's a delightful color sightseeing map of the city at the center of the magazine (shown in one of the photos). As can be seen in the pages shown, there are also some interesting advertisements, both local and national. The full-page automobile ads for the 1957 Buick and Chevrolet models are quite striking.
Actual Size:
68 pages, approx. 12¾" x 10½"
Date:
June 14, 1957
Condition:
Very good
, I'd say. The magazine is quite clean, with some slight toning of the newsprint and a little bit of roughness at the edges and corners. The back page has a few small tears.
