Antique Columbia Graphophone Type Q cylinder phonograph complete with wood case and horn
This auction is for a Columbia Graphophone Type Q windup cylinder phonograph which is entirely complete and includes the wood case and horn. The last patent date is 1897. The reproducer is in very good condition and the phonograph works well; it comes with two 2-minute Edison cylinder records and plays them with good volume. The player is obviously a 2-minute one; were there 4-minute ones? The mechanism is in excellent condition with very minor corrosion, mostly on the fasteners. The winding key is present, and the machine runs for the entire 2 minutes with one winding. The horn may be original but I am not an expert on these items so y’all will tell me, I’m sure. The horn fits the machine perfectly, has a little surface rust and the gold (decal?) band around the end is present. The wood case is very solid, no damage, but has minor delaminating of the upper plywood layer and an open seam on one of the bottom corners. The floor plate is excellent. The decals on the outside of the lid are in good condition with some crazing, and a
paper factory sticker is present inside the lid and looks original. Overall this player is in excellent cosmetic condition, see photos. It is in as-found condition, I have not performed any work on it other than lubrication. I have a number of detailed images but contact me with questions.
Will be carefully double boxed. I have set a modest reserve, not because I am trying to get rich but because I do not particularly want to go through the pack and ship routine for peanuts.
