This expert level, museum quality, Schooner Bluenose model is brand new, fully assembled and ready for display (not a kit). This half hull boat model was crafted in mahogany and tropical hard woods by the traditional plank on bulkhead method. After the bulkheads are laid and the hull lines trued, the hull is planked with individual wooden strips to form a smooth silhouette. The Schooner Bluenose 1921 model is then sanded, hand painted with black topsides and a red cove stripe. The hull is stained and varnished to a mirror-like finish. The half hull is then mounted on a ready to hang wooden plaque, with an engraved brass nameplate.The half hull model is built exactly to scale as the original Bluenose was. The task required skillful craftsmen hundreds of hours to accomplish.

The Art of making half hulls is as old as ship building itself! Half Hulls were crafted by ship builders to give three-dimensional shape to their hull designs.
The schooner Bluenose
was launched in Lunenburg and has a very special place in the history of navigation and yachting. Built to fish off the Newfoundland coast, the ship soon turned out to be such a fast sailer that she won all the great classical regattas along the USA's Eastern coast.
The Bluenose was used not only as a racing ship but as a cod-fishing schooner. The Bluenose was the response to a Nova Scotian defeat in a race for schooners established by the Halifax Herald newspaper in 1920. After fishing season, the Bluenose defeated the ship Elsie from Gloucester, Massachusetts, returning the trophy to Nova Scotia.
During the next 17 years, the Bluenose faced no North American challengers. She was built in Nova Scotia on March 26, 1921, and shipwrecked near Haiti in 1946.
An exact replica the Bluenose II was built and launched in 1964.
