    Description

Japanese Art Pottery made in Vietnam, Tea Cup, Beer Mug or Brush Holder Stoneware.
I purchased this item about 50 miles outside Hanoi in the year 2000.  At the time, there was an entire village that made high end reproduction Chinese ceramics of all kinds.  One of the smaller kilns had been contracted by a Japanese company to make a limited edition item, which is listed here.  It may be a tea cup or beer mug, but I've used it for years as a brush holder or a pen holder on my desk.  The reason I believe it may be a tall tea cup or a beer mug is the way it is twisted near the middle and the base.  It fits very well into the hand.  The reason I've used it as a brush/pen holder is because it weighs 1 pound 4 ounces, which makes it much too heavy for a tea cup or beer mug in my hand.
    Condition is "Used".
The piece stands 6 inches high and has a base diameter of slightly more than 3 inches.  The relief of leaves, vines, etc., on the front is unusual and the brown glaze very nicely done.  Except for the ink marks from pens on the inside of the piece, it's in good condition.  There is a small area of missing glaze on the lip.  There are also some small kiln flaws that look like bubbling in the glaze, but they do not detract from the piece or the design.  The bottom also has a few kiln flaws.
Sold AS IS.  There are no returns, so please examine the photographs and ask questions before bidding.
