Description
Maker: This superb contemporary handmade plate comes from Samarkand, Uzbekistan, a spectacularly beautiful historic city on the famed Silk Road across Central Asia, an area that has produced wonderful glazed pottery wares since the 8th century. It is one of the world's oldest pottery producing regions.
On the reverse, along with a small hanger, is a paper label with the attribution "Samarkand 2013" and an unknown painted black signature or backstamp.
The plate may be the work of the renowned Uzbek master ceramist Rustam Usmanov, but that is not confirmed.
Design
: The geometric pattern is in a rich palette of blue, aquamarine and white with dark pink highlights.
Size
: The plate is 9 7/8 inches wide, 1 5/8 tall and weighs an impressive 1 1/2 pounds.
Condition
: It's in excellent condition with no nicks, chips, cracks, scratches, repairs, stains or discoloration. It has a few of the tiny painting inconsistencies and pinpoint marks that are typical of handmade Uzbek ceramics and add to their beauty. There is faint crazing throughout.
This gorgeous wall plate would make a fabulous gift or a wonderful addition to any ceramics collection.
