    Description

Item up for auction is a wooden ship model of a Oyster Pirate Ship name Shore Bird. Here is what the general information sheet says about this sleek looking wood ship model that was built for speed.  "This type of boat most commonly connected with the Cheasapeake in the minds of most people, is a skip jack.  Commonly refered to as a "bateau" these boats ranged in size from 22ft. over the deck to huge sloops of nearly 60ft.  In a class unto them self, were the oyster pirates.  These were fast bateaux that drerdged on oyster beds reserved by law for tonging.  The poachers often operated at night and were sometimes called "night scrapers."  Speed was required to evade the police vessels.  Poachers whose pleasure it was to pursue the business regularly has special fast beteaux built.  They were usually smaller in size from 32-36 ft. in length, and were oftem less beamy, in proportion to length, than the regular oyster dredge.  This is a scale model of a boat built near Oriole, Maryland about 1900, for a poacher.  In this work she was renamed several times.  At one time known as Shore Bird, she ended her career as a pleasure boat under the name of Messenger.  Model is complete, it comes in the original shipping box, and the owner was more of a collector, not a ship builder.  Kit looks to be complete and now it is being offered for a very reaonalbe price on minimum bid to encourage bidding.  eBay now offers buyers a variety of ways that they can pay for any auction that they may win.  Once the auction is over we would appreciate your payment within 5 days of the auction ending.  After receiving your payment we will process your order as quickly as possible but please allow up to 5 business days (M-F) to ship.  We do not ship on weekends or holidays.  We sell in the United States only at this time.
